Halo 4 will explore Master Chief's story, but with one less director

Posted on Tuesday, 6 September 2011 by Speed, source: 1Up
In a new interview, 343 Industries' director Frank O’Connor said we'll be exploring more of Master Chief's story in Halo 4:
“We called it a new trilogy, but that’s really just a chronological description. It’s a direct continuation and evolution of the Master Chief’s story,”

“We’re going to be pretty front and center about that. This is about the Master Chief and we’re going to make him a deeper and richer character than he’s been, but just in the way that I’m sure Bungie would have naturally done anyway.”
Don't worry that you'll suddenly see Master Chief talking his way though combat, as that won't happen:
“You’re just going to learn more about him, and that’s the best way to explore anybody’s character,”

“The Chief has had a strange, difficult, and brutal life. And I think people want to know a little bit more about that – that’s one of the attractions of the books and it’s something that we’re able to put into the games very easily, and something we’ve always wanted to do.”
All good and well, but 343 Industries will have to do with one of their creative directors less. Ryan Payton has decided to leave the company to form his own little pet shop (or whatever you want to call a dev studio):
"I don't regret one day of it. But after a few years, there came a point where I wasn't creatively excited about the project anymore."

"The Halo I wanted to build was fundamentally different and I don't think I had built enough credibility to see such a crazy endeavor through."

"I think time is the most valuable thing we have, and I've decided that I'm not going to waste one more day working on something that doesn't speak to my values."
Payton has started up his own studio called Camouflaj and is already working on two new projects.
