Hip Interactive going down*Update

Posted on Tuesday, 12 July 2005 by Ryuken, source: Blues
With a missed chance on achieving new funds for the firm, Canadian publisher/distributor Hip Interactive is obliged to lay off the books. An interim receiver has been appointed to shut down the company.

Pursuant to an application by Congress Financial Corporation (Canada) under Section 47(1) of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice appointed Ernst & Young Inc. as interim receiver over Hip Interactive Corp. and certain of its subsidiaries.

The Company and its subsidiaries will continue to carry on operations during the receivership period under the oversight of the interim receiver. It is expected that the interim receiver will undertake the orderly liquidation of the Company and its subsidiaries under receivership in the interests of their creditors.

The fate of their upcoming titles like George Romero's City of the Dead and Jackie Chan Adventures has not yet been decided. For Call of Cthulhu: Destiny's End, these events won't have influence on the development, according to Headfirst Games' Mike Woodroffe, who spoke about it in this short interview.

Update: Gamesindustry.biz has news that Hip Interactive Europe and Hip Gear remain unaffected by the bankruptcy of the Canadian division. The titles mentioned above will see a release here in Europe as planned.

I guess they just took a lot of risks and invested in the (apparently) wrong titles. They did a lot of promo for Playboy, Stolen, etc, but just couldn't cash in... Playboy The Mansion probably cost a fortune in IP alone.

Playboy the Mansion was published by Arush Entertainment / Groove Games and developed by Cyberlored Studios.

But yes, they did publish Stolen.
