"Home" will be ruled with iron fist

If it depends on Sony, goblins will have no chance as the company will be supervising very carefully what's supposed to become the virtual home of all PS3-owners.

Still, Sony themselves won't be the ones doing the supervision, they're counting on "the community" that wil report intolerable behaviour to the mother company.

Peter Edward, leader of the Home-department, stated it will be possible to ban consoles from the network. Buying a new console wouldn't be enough to get back online either:

In an admittedly radical but possible step, Edward noted that a serious abuser would "have to move house and buy a new PS3 before they could get online again."

Since they know your personal information (hello Big Brother?) the company will provide several age-determined areas. In an adult area, advertising for booze and tobacco would be allowed for instance.

With a presentation featuring potential branding from Durex, Marlboro and Bacardi, Edward said that it's not Sony's intention to offer a sanitised experience, and that more mature gamers can expect to see the same products advertised online as in the real world.

Sony realises most of their users are above 18 and will pay a lot of attention to that age class.

Damn, I was writing a bit message but my browser fucked up, so I'll repeat it in short form...

Basically, tobacco advertising in any form is illegal in most countries, although legislation may not exist to ban it from video games just yet. If Peter wants to take advantage of a loop in the law, he's not doing his company a favor.

"more mature gamers can expect to see the same products advertised online as in the real world."
Is a load of bollox, since tobacco ISN'T advertised in the real world. I haven't seen an ad for tobacco in the last ten years ever since Germany also banned it. This guy is either living in the 1950's or he's fucking stupid.

Tobacco advertizing is legal in the US. It is not legal on television however. I suppose as could be filtered by country.

I thought it was banned worldwide after the effects were proven to be so bad. Especially since America now has a serious anti-smoking campaign and the number of smokers is finally falling there.

HAHA good point dude.

How do they expect to police it though, you cant just rely on other users to police it if the punishment for misbehaviour is so harsh, people could lie and gang up on other users who have done nothing wrong and get them banned.
