IW Insiders: Infinity Ward is dead. No it's not.

Posted on Saturday, 17 April 2010 by Speed, source: Kotaku
With all the departures going on at Infinity Ward it's clear that things aren't happy happy joy joy at the studio. That feeling is even more emphasized by two inside sources that told Kotaku contradictory stories.

The first insider made it clear that Infinity Ward as we know it is dead and that Activision - Blizzard is "scared shitless" about what's going on and doesn't really know how to handle the situation:
"They're scared shitless," the source said of Activision management. "They never saw this coming. They can't believe what's going on. At first they gave us some bullshit about moving up payments of all the money they owe us to sooner increments. That was when [designer] Todd [Alderman] and [engineer] Frank [Gigliotti] left. But with the announcement of Respawn and all the people leaving, they just got there heads in their hands."

"They fired the two most amazing leaders we've ever seen, and then shafted us all out of a lot of money that was promised to us...there is nothing they can do to gain our trust or respect. And I'm pretty sure they know it now."

"IW as you know it is dead...and it will continue to crumble. There are a lot more veterans who are definitely going to leave."
After this broke, another insider came forward and told Kotaku that things aren't as bad as the first one suggests:
"First off, yes, it is a shitty situation, but there are two kinds of people left: ones that are sticking it out for the money, and others who want to make something work. We are not dead, we definitely lost original team members, but not all of the talent. When you talk about the people who left, they are the best in the business, but equally everyone at Infinity Ward deserves that same credential. We are here for the long haul of keeping the Modern Warfare name alive, but as your article clearly shows, certain people are still pissed about it. We just had this discussion in our Monday meeting, 'We still have the talent that will get us to where we need to go, and now is the time to find our new leaders.'
Activision - Blizzard themselves have not responded to any of the comments.

HAHAHA i hope you get what you deserve ACTIVISION! you greedy F*****S!

and i hope THE ENTIRE ORIGINAL IW TEAM, move to RESPAWN studios & work as great as they did with MW1.

Shame that stuff has to be like this but hopefully the original IW team will reunite again & create something amazing without giving ACTIVISION a penny.

EA RESPAWN ENTERTAINMENT FTW!

With Digital Distribution developing the way it is, and with platforms like Steam, who says Respawn will need EA, Activision, Ubisoft or any other distributor? Based on previous experiences chances are Respawn will try to stay independent and can any1 really blame them?!?
From what I remember they weren't too happy with EA back when they left the studio 2015 after having finished MoHAA and starting up IW, which is why they went to Activisioin...

They've now got a deal with EA Partners. So they're still independent and use EA as distributor/publisher and nothing more

I figured they would try to either avoid or keep down attachment to big distributors based on previous experiences, guess such an agreement is ideal for them. And Activision management can now reap what they've sown...
