Id revving up Rage information engine
Quakecon is getting closer and closer so id Software is starting to pump up the expectations for their next big game Rage. They use this months issue of GameInformer as their weapon of choice and are not shooting blanks. Nope, this time we are getting some hard details.
The game is still an open-world shooter slash racer filled with hub towns from which you start your missions.
They have put in place an engineering system which allows you to build stuff like sentry guns and remotely controlled car bombs. You need to gather blueprints to be able to make them. Next to this there is also a car parts system where you can boost acceleration, traction and suspension or upgrade your car with bombs, emp's, tire shredders and even a magnet to attrackt power-ups.
The main character's health regenerates due to a conditions linked to his past.
Racing isn't just racing but largely vehicular combat with power-ups and ammo crates. Think Mario Kart but way more badass.
There are weapon upgrades like scopes and aiming stabilisers for your crossbow. Those weapons can also hold alternating ammo. That same crossbow has an ammo type with allows you to control your targets for a fraction of time before they explode.
Another known weapon is called 'the wingstick' and it's a boomerang which faithfully returns to you after doing some killing.
There is a game show with gladiators on television called Mutant Bash and it offers big prices.
It isn't all Rambo and explosions in here. You can do stealth.
Some more general information is given on the mulitplayer part and more precise the fact that it isn't finalized yet. Furthermore it was also said that the Pc version will offer higher resolutions and more anti aliasing.
The game is still being developed for PC, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Mac but it won't be coming out this year. It might still see the retail shelves before 2011 though.
