Improved Wii planned for next spring?

Posted on Monday, 18 December 2006 by Zwan, source: Dpad Gotfrag
A manager over at Toys - R -Us has possibly said too much. He has claimed that Nintendo will release a new Wii in spring 2007. The console would also cost a mere 200$ (about 160€, but I guess that'll make 200€ here on the old continent).

And what do you get? An improved Nintendo Wii with built-in DVD player, available in several new colours.

Nintendo has yet to comment on the matter.

I dont think they should be able to get away with it unless they swap all the Wii's already sold with the new one for no cost to the people that got the machine on launch and up until the new one is released.

Talk about shit from a great great height on the loyal buyers.

If they are going to improve it, that just means to me that the Wii thats out at the moment is unfinished.

Why would you give your one away and buy their new one, thats just stupid.
You are giving them your money twice and allowing them to get away with it when they are blatantly taking the piss out of you.

Cause that's how I create new nintendo fans! Been doing it for years. Old gameboys never die, they're just given away. Now that gonna apply to Wii's as well!

*cough* HD DVD Player *cough* xBox360 *uncough*

Why wouldn't you want to improve your console further extending its shelf life and potentially increasing the market share? Get real.

The HD-DVD drive is an optional add on not an improvement on the console itself, the X360 you buy in the shops now is the same as the X360 that was available at launch.

If the Wii has something addded to it, it will have more features than the Wii that was available at launch, meaning if you got a machine on launch or before the new machine is released you have a Wii with less features than the people that waited.

You need to get real dude, its just not right, its making you buy something you possibly already have and as for the guy above saying hes creating new nintendo fans, im sure nintendo is posted you your cheque for your loyalty as i type.

Adding a DVD player and dropping the price tag doesn't make anyone have to buy it. It just will introduce more customers. If Nintendo finds a way to please more people at less cost why not relaunch the damn thing. Ain't the $50 dollar difference worth it to those that got one for their family at Christmas or profited on e-bay?

If i brought a console on launch and then a few months later they released an updated version with more features for less money i would feel extremly mugged off.

Even if you sold your old one and brought the new one you would still lose money.

If someone profited on e-bay then they didnt want it, they wanted to make a quick buck so they aint going to buy another one for themselves or they would of kept the first one they got.

No matter how you try and justify it, its just wrong and shouldnt be allowed, its the same as when companies release a film on dvd and then a couple of months later they release the same film with extra scenes, its not like the extra scenes were filmed after the dvds first release.

Just like dvd was not invented after the Wii was released, you going to try and tell me nintendo didnt have time to add dvd playback before they launched, its not even like its a HD or Bluray drive its just standard dvd which is ancient in technology terms now.
