Infinity Ward stunned by piracy

Posted on Wednesday, 16 January 2008 by Speed, source: Shacknews
Infinity Ward, makers of the great and very successful Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, are simply stunned by the piracy of the PC gamer.

The community relations manager recently said he was very happy with the amount of online PC gamers playing the game, but now he's displeased with the percentage of those players that use an illegal copy or key. The title of his pice "They Wonder Why People Don't Make PC Games Any More" speaks for itself.

"What wasn't fantastic was the percentage of those numbers who were playing on stolen copies of the game on stolen / cracked CD keys of pirated copies (and that was only people playing online)," he posted under the heading "They Wonder Why People Don't Make PC Games Any More."

Here, I found one!
id Software and Epic Games last year already sounded similar when giving the reason why all their new games are released multiplatform. Surprising were also the low sales numbers of top games like Unreal Tournament III and Crysis, eventhough it's absolutely not clear how much piracy is responsible for the limited sales of these PC games.

Developers that try to protect themselves in a different, software, way against hackers, like 2K Boston with Bioshock, get tons of criticism over their head from internet gamers.

This is of course a very complex discussion for which not all data is available. We can only call out that you, gamers in heart and vains, support developers and buy the games that are worth it instead of copying them! Only that way will we be able to keep our hobby alive and get good, original games. And that's what it's all about, no?

Soon you will not have anything to download bloodsucker. Good for you though.

Luckily i quitted pc gaming long ago. PC started to die couple of years ago. This is no new news. Pirating PC games is just too easy. Even a 7 year old kid can use and will use torrent and other peer to peer sharing softwares.

X360 titles are much more polished and bug free. And pirating it's software is much harder. I mean who want's to get his ass kicked from LIVE...
Only thing i miss is the keyb & mouse combination in FPS games. Though i get better and better with the pad too.

If the piracy goes on soon it won't be profitable for the game devs to develop games which means they're gonna quit and we all end up losing!
Since I've paid for every single game I've played over the years I will suffer the consequences of the actions of a bunch of selfish morons...so nothing new in this world...

Games are too expensive. They should reuse their technology more and ease up on the system requirements. Not everyone can or is willing to buy PC upgrades or a new machine every half year. Both narrow the market.
I bought COD4 for the online play but as a single player game it's a lot of money for barely two days of gameplay.

The old argument of "it's too expensive" is sad, pathetic, and indicative of the gaming demographic. Seeing as most online and offline shooters are rated either 15+ or 18+, you schmucks out there should have jobs that can pay for the games these developers spend years making. The developer community has my support in whatever it needs to do to prevent tight ass gamers freeloading from their hard work.

In order for people to start buying games, publishing companies need to stop being greedy bastards they've been for last years. I've stopped buying new releases because the last ones were so buggy, so unfinished and so expensive that I felt screwed. It's enough that one company releases a piece of crap, and a lot of gamers are not going to buy anything for a while, from any company. Because some of them tried to make a quick buck, everyone is punished now.
