Info and screen from Call of Duty 4
Call of Duty 4 has to become what COD3 failed to be: a new part that makes the series better and more innovative. When you take a look at these details that have just been released, it seems to be going in the right direction:
- The Russian nationalist Zakheav is your opponent and he has connections with the mobs, military forces and corrupt businessmen. He wants to take Russia back to the Stalin-era.
- After some missions as a spy in Russia, you'll get dropped in the Middle-East, backed up by helicopters, after which you go back to Russia to protect a person.
- A 60 fps framerate has been promised.
- Explosions have physical waves, causing little walls to fall, barrels to fall over and dust to fly away.
- Vehicles can be shot to pieces, they'll lose particles and can also explode completely.
- You can pick up grenades and throw them back. There are teargas-, flash-, splinter- and smokegrenates.
- Weapons and bullets are modelled securely and realistically. Heavier ammunition will pierce through wooden doors or metal plates and can thus kill the ennemy behind it.
- They promise to have an environment as detailed as that of Oblivion.
- The interface on your screen is kept minimal to be part of the game as much as possible. There will be no mini-map in singleplayer and your ammo-info will be short and only presented when necessary.
- The levels and assignments will offer plenty of freedom to follow your own path and choose your own order of completing assignments, but don't expect something as GTA or Crackdown.
- Your A.I.-partners will help you locate ennemies, objectives and goals.
