Interview with developer of GT5 + screens
Last Sunday the Tokyo Game Show ended. For Gran Turismo 5 this event brought both good and bad news.
The announcement that Gran Turismo 5 would only be available in Japan on March 2010 disappointed many. To compensate, the people at Polyphony Digital were kind enough to invite the press to their headquarters in Tokyo. Through this, many press journalists had the chance to fire off some questions towards Kazunori Yamauchi, the inventor of the series.
GTPlanet made a summary of the most important things that were mentioned.
According to Kazunori Yamauchi (KY), the current state of development is 65%. In his words:

GTPlanet made a summary of the most important things that were mentioned.
According to Kazunori Yamauchi (KY), the current state of development is 65%. In his words:
“If it’s just to play the race or just run the game is over. However, if you want to go after the experience I would say we’re at 65%.”
(through JVN.com)After the Japanese release date, the game should become available real soon in both the US and Europe:
“I don’t think it’s going to be that much later in the U.S. and Europe. This is based on our production schedule. The reason why the dates for the U.S. and [European] regions are not decided yet is because their marketing is still discussing their issues. It shouldn’t be too far off from [the Japanese] date for the other regions as well.”
(through Gamespot)Currently PD is hard at work on developing the engine that will calculate the impact and damage on the cars when you crash with them.
Once we have the physics calculation engine that will calculate the deformation on impact I think we will be done. [...] Racing cars will have the parts falling off, and obviously you will be able to see inside of the car, so it takes a lot of additional effort to create the cars.”
(through IGN)There was also some talk about the online part. KY sort of confirmed that lobbies would be used in the game:
“The big difference between Prologue and GT5 is that Prologue works like an open game. Anyone can go and play together. In GT5, there will be a restricted area where you can invite anyone you want or your friends.”
(through JVN)Another question was about the promised day/night cycle:
"We can implement it, but we don’t know whether we will put it in or not. Even for damage, it only took us two months to get it where we’re at, and if we really wanted to, we could enter time changes and stuff like that, but it really depends on how it will affect the quality of the game.”
(through IGN)Gamespot was able to verify through Yamauchi that you would be able to replace external parts of the car. You'll be able to add different bumpers, spoilers and more throughout the game. To IGN he said the following:
"Visual modifications, yes. They will also affect the physical characteristics of the car as well.”
Regarding interaction between GTPSP and Gran Turismo 5 we learned that if you unlock a car in the handheld version, it will also become available in GT5. Credits on the other hand will remain completely seperated.
Finally they said that currently they have no downloadable content planned.
