Jack Thompson takes on Halo 3

Posted on Wednesday, 26 September 2007 by Speed, source: GamePolitics
GamePolitics is reporting that Jack Thompson is taking on Halo 3 and trying to get it declared "a pubilc nuisance"

As with Bully, Thompson clearly hopes the court will grant him a hearing. Although after last year’s well-publicized Bully performance, which earned Thompson a Bar complaint from presiding Judge Ronald Friedman, that seems unlikely.

More troubling by far are the long term implications of this action. Thompson apparently feels emboldened to invoke Florida’s public nuisance law against any video game he desires to target. That is the essence of censorship and the video game industry cannot allow it to continue on any number of grounds - legal, moral or creative.

What a jackass!

indeed, he already lost with bully, why try again with a less offensive game?

Because he's an attention-mongering scare-invoker. He and many other religiously motivated people feel a need to be in the spotlight and try to 'save' everybody from a non-existent threat, and in his case he'd much rather target something that a lot of parents try not to understand. If it WERE a case of it being offensive to him, he could just ignore it, but as a way of trying to draw attention to himself it works rather nicely- the only people who make it a point to report on what he has to say is the sensationalist media who want to make a few bucks scaring the wits out of hapless parents, even though they're in control.

Not to worry though... bugs like Thompson are usually swatted out by the flyswatter of common sense. Not even the Florida BAR is taking him seriously, and they're set to find a few good reasons to administer the legal Banhammer on him and essentially stop him from practicing law for the rest of his annoying Jesus-is-my-best-friend-toting life.

Fair point, I wonder why they haven't banned him from the bar before.

He obviously hasn't seen Gears of War. Halo 3 isn't "hyperviolent" (As he says it is) because you don't have chainsaws, dismemberment, Decapitation, etc. Halo 3 is Early Childhood rated compared to Gears.
