Jack Thompson targets Microsoft

Posted on Thursday, 4 January 2007 by Speed, source: Joystiq
Joystiq received a letter from everyone's favorite lawyer, Jack Thompson, in which he addresses Microsoft's Bill Gates and says that Microsoft should do whatever it takes to prevent GTA4 to be sold to minors

The letter, a copy of which was sent to Joystiq, warns Microsoft against "participating in any fashion, directly or indirectly, in such sales to minors."

In short this comes down to Thompson requesting Microsoft to not release GTA4 on Xbox360. I bet they'll immediately drop one of their top titles out of fear Mr. Thompson is coming after them... NOT!

Well. You see, when the European Monopolies Comission files dozens of law suits on almost all of microsoft's products in any way related to operating systems, every year, and Microsoft either wins those law suits or pays the fines of several hundred million, this asshole here (jack) stands no chance.

Some things you cannot stop. If you can't stop arms/drugs trades that happen all over the world, you won't stop minors getting their older brothers to go to a shop and buy a game for them. And stopping GTA4? It's not even going to come out till 2008, or even later. What the fuck is he smoking?

The american law system has it's pluses, but assholes like jack make the system look crap.

What can Microsoft do to stop GTA4 being sold to minors?

surely this is a problem in shops, and also parents.

My suggestion is to make GTA an unrated game and sell it to everyone, as everybody except Jack knows games are not what create killers...

"The american law system has it's pluses, but assholes like jack make the system look crap." - untrue. All are arseholes in the system you mentioned. Jack is just one of many.

When i mentioned the law system i meant both the lawyers/judges as well as the people suing. The prime example being that in America you pay for the result of a law suit, in europe you pay per hour. This results in the fact that if someone trashes my car and I know who it is, most of the time it's more expensive to sue him and get the money out of him than to simply repair the car. In America it would be different.

Actually it's the same in US or Europe. Lawyers and judges are corrupt. If they aren't then they don't last long.

no offence but, *sigh*
The world isn't like the movies, where every judge, copper of lawyer has been bribed by the other party. There prolly will be corrupt ppl out there, but damn, not everyone is corrupt.

Indeed. And when i compare how lawyers in the USA take money for results (if they win the law suit) compared to european lawyers take money by the hour even if they fail - has nothing AT ALL to do with whether someone is corrupt or not. The main problem is that european lawyers are all either shit or lazy, cause they know they'll get paid anyway, with the exception of perhaps a couple of people - that's the way it works.

True. Bus drivers and cleaning ladies probably aren't bribed. Lawyers? Let me tell you about EU lawyers. My dad lost his health at work. He applied for pensions. He had to hire a lawyer, best in the field. The arse stalled the case for my dad, got him minimal pension, lost him all future possibilities in correcting the amount as time expired (due to his intended fault) and cashed in a bonus from the pension paying society for saving them money. He got 5x more then my dad would get in many years to come. Lawyers? CORRUPT! Judges? CORRUPT!

Maybe your Dad should try and find a real lawyer instead of a £10 market lawyer.

"He hired a lawyer, best in the field", like you were told before, real life is not a movie, there is no such thing as a 'best-in-the-field' lawyer, especially in such a low-par case as this.
