Japan looses interest in PSP
Posted on Saturday, 27 August 2005 by Speed, source: Nextgeneration
While the PSP is going on sale in a couple of days in Europe, the handheld has been in shops in the US and homeland Japan for quite some time already.
Recently, an investigation was done towards the usage amongst 1000 Japanese owners and some very interesting facts were found.
Only 10% already has checked out an UMD movie while the majority never plans to do so. Next to that less than half of the gamers were planning to ever with pictures or a movie through the Memory Stick. Apparantly, the extra features aren't what's important to the owners.
This also shows from the fact that 1 out of 2 people admitted to not having even touched their PSP for some time already. There's clearly a need for a new topgame, something that has been hinted already multiple times.

What's more troubling, however, is what Japanese consumers are saying about their PSP usage. 50% of them freely admitted they had not touched their PSP in "some time." While that's certainly not at all specific, it's indicative of a similar trend amongst US PSP users desperately looking for a hot, new game to play.
