Jeremy Soule talks about Direct Song
Famous game music composer Jeremy Soule has shed light on one his new projects. It is not soundtrack for a game but a new online service, called Direct Song, for gamers who want to hear more official music tracks in their games.
GameCloud has put up an interesting interview with Soule about the whole concept. Here are some excerpts:
The first game that'll feature Direct Song expansion packs is Guild Wars, with the first pack going to be released in September (after a free mini-pack in August). J. Soule doesn't mention other specific games that will support Direct Song but it seems they have several contacts with other publishers already. And he obviously won't be the only composer to lend his talents to this new initiative.
Check out the official site of Direct Song for a FAQ, a free (and neat) music sample and an option to register for their services in the future. Normal OST's will be offered on Direct Song too.
Well, I must agree with the statement that there isn't enough music in present games. I wouldn't mind paying for extra music at all, as long as there's enough quantity in each of these expansion packs.
GameCloud has put up an interesting interview with Soule about the whole concept. Here are some excerpts:
Gamecloud - First, how did the idea for Direct Song first come to you?
Jeremy Soule - I probably thought of the Direct Song idea a couple of years ago. I kept seeing games that were sorely short in the amount of music they contained. Many games were still shipping with 30-40 minutes of music in those days. I started thinking of creating a delivery system that would be fast, convenient and low-priced for our customers.
Gamecloud - Why do you think such a music service for games is needed?
Jeremy Soule - Direct Song was made to satisfy game enthusiasts who want more than the game industry's average amount of music in their games. Direct Song enabled games ship with an hour or more of music at retail. However, with further expansion, our games can hold hours of music. I'll add that games typically ship with an hour of music because of space and budget considerations. Direct Song alleviates these hurdles so that publishers can deliver a better musical experience to their customers.
