Johnson: Xbox Live doesn't fear Cloud gaming
The European head of Xbox LIVE, Jerry Johnson, isn't too worried about the rise of videogame streaming services, OnLive and Gaika. Accoding to Johnson Cloud gaming - an alternative name for game streaming - isn't for mass market in the near future.
"streaming technology is something that the industry is betting on longer term... right now I don't believe that technology can scale out against the experience we can offer on a local machine."
Johnson added that: "The technology will continue to improve. As an industry we'll have to accept that and move with it - but I don't think it's on an accelerated timeline for the foreseeable future."
We do see some advantages in OnLive, but "renting" a game doesn't really compare to owning it. The discs with accompanying booklet and DVD case is still the way to go for us!Johnson added that: "The technology will continue to improve.
