Kinect: Return of the RROD?

Posted on Thursday, 6 January 2011 by Speed, source: BBC
Is Kinect the bringer of doom for the X360?

In the UK plenty of gamers are reporting they're getting the infamous "Red Ring of Death" after plugging in Microsoft's Kinect motion controller into their Xbox360.

One gamer went public, speaking to the BBC and saying that he only had used Kinect for a few times before suddenly his X360 stopped working and displayed the notorious Red Ring of Death:
"We plugged it in the day we got it but only played it a few times before we got the red lights. The next day when we tried it again we still had the red rings of death and haven't been able to use it since."
Also several forums are having people shouting that Kinect broke their X360. A couple of quotes:
"I have never had a single issue with my Xbox. i got Kinect for Christmas and the screen starting freezing randomly. Then on New Year's eve... BAM I got the red ring. Very sad,"

"Yep, I got the Red rings of death on Christmas day The very same day my kids got a Kinect,"
Microsoft has issued a statement, saying that there is no correlation between Kinect and the RROD. If the X360 breaks down after playing with Kinect, that's a mere coincidence:
"[Kinect has been] designed to work with every Xbox 360 sold to date."

"There is no correlation between the three flashing red lights error and Kinect. Any new instances of the three flashing red lights error are merely coincidental,"
Seeing how many X360s break down with the RROD, it's very possible that this is indeed a coincidence that people are having problems after playing with Kinect.
