LG wants to get PS3 banned in USA
Wow, this could be big! :)
Electronics company LG has filed a complaint with the International Trade commission (ITC), asking to have the PlayStation 3 removed from the US market due to patent infringement. Several TV sets and Blu-ray players (including the PS3) apparently are infringing patents owned by LG.
The complaints regarding the game console are about "a way of dealing with multiple data streams, such as different camera angles, as well as a system to reproduce data that's stored on a read-only device."
As ITC cannot fine a company, LG also filed a suit against Sony with the California court. The commission does have the power, however, to ban sales of all products involved, eventhough it probably won't go that far so soon.
The complaint comes after Sony first suggested that LG was infringing on no less than 7 of Sony's patents regarding the production of several mobile phones.
Our though: this will have lots of exposure, there will be lots of lawyers blabbering and then there will be a settlement that makes everybody happy again! You'll see ;)
(or else Americans will just have to go abroad for their PS3 needs ;p)
