Left 4 Dead gets golden coating, buy anything Valve on the cheap

What? $45? I'll put my fangs into that!
Valve Software's own community and online distribution site Steampowerd.com made the news official last night. For those who pre-ordered Left 4 Dead, saved 10% and got the demo a few days before the rest of the world, the game has started pre-loading. It will unlock at 12:01 am EST on November 18.

If you are not already convinced or have never even heard of the game, go try the demo right now on Steam of Xbox Live Marketplace. I've been playing it for quite some time and while I'm by no means a big zombie fan (except you Stubbs, I love you), this game has kick-ass written all over it even without counting the awesomeness added by the co-op possibilities.

Meanwhile, Valve is doing an effort in getting some extra sales out of all the hype the game has been creating by offering a Valve Complete Pack for only $99.99 on Steam. This package contains anything that is called Half Life, Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat or Team Fortress, Left 4 Dead (well duh?), Peggle Extreme, Portal and Ricochet. With Left 4 Dead selling at $44.99 this means you get every Valve tile ever made for $45. A great deal if you ask me.

Just played the demo and honestly, it was kinda meh.

The standard for gameplay has been bumped up considerably by games like F.E.A.R. and CoD4. This feels like a Half-Life 2 mod...

Honestly, I'm disappointed.

In my experience it has a lot to do with who your playing with, the difficulty your playing, and how the AI Director treats you.

I've already arranged a time on launch day for my friends and I to play it and I'm psyched.

I've beat the demo on expert probably about 20 times now with various friends and I still find it enjoyable. Also for a couple of days, people were able to play as the infected hero guys, I tried that and it was a blast climbing up walls and jumping across the map as a Hunter.

For me, this game lived up to the hype.

Would there be much point to aiming down the sights?

:)

I agree with Ninjafish, who you play with and the difficulty really affect the 'funess'.

My only real problem with the demo is that its so short, I can't wait for the full version.

It has an influence on the "feel" of the game for one thing + personally I'm very accustomed to that feature, so to me as an avid FSP gamer, not having it is a real drawback! It wouldn't have "cost" the devs anything to add that feature to the game and then let each gamer decide for him/herself whether to take use of it or not.
But like I said, lots of gamers will like L4D and there's lot of other games for the rest to choose from.

Shooter Mechanics feel very weak is what I was referring to... Also, it still doesn't live up to the frantic COOP survival of the first Alien vs. Predator...

A couple things that could vastly improve it would be slower movement backwards (would reduce the serious sam run backwards and spray concept), better positional damage and damage reaction from enemies (when you shoot them with a shotgun it just feels 'weak'). Better physical reaction with your toon in the world and a more physical feel all-around as opposed to the current "gliding" around feeling you get while moving or the very weak feeling you get when zombies hit you.

Newer shooters have pushed the limits of "feel" considerably, and this title just doesn't deliver in that area. Compare things like Deadspace, F.E.A.R., Oblivion (yes, this counts just because of how you interact with getting hit by melee opponents), CoD4, and others.

Honestly, I'd highly suggest anyone try the first AVP game coop (if you can manage to get it to run on your system...). Fast, frantic, and just feels better. Its sad I'm saying that about a game that's 8 years old...

I have to disagree with the reaction zombies get to fire. I think their body parts fly off accordingly to gunfire and their bodys react appropriately. I'm kind of turned off from excessive ragdoll physics.

But I do agree that when zombies hit you its kind of hard to notice, this is especially a problem in expert mode where every hit from a normal zombie does 20 damage per hit.
