There is some interesting news for those of you wanting to buy an Xbox in the near future.

Apparently, Microsoft is gearing up to spend up to €4,3 million (£3 million) on the promotion of it's Xbox in Europe over the next couple of months. The Seattle based company has hired one of the best marketing companies available, Tequila, to reposition its console on the european market. (source: Gamesindustry.biz)

Possible strategies are partnerships with renowned companies as Interbrew (The worlds local brewer - conveniently located in my home town :) and MTV Europe. Negotiations with other leading companies are been undertaken as we speak.

And it's about time, because according to the figures from June '03, Sony's Playstation 2 has a marketshare of 80% (!) in the Benelux, compared to 15% for the Xbox and 5% for Nintendo's Gamecube (source: GFK). Microsoft has (probably) finaly realised that they need to do something about that.


It remains to be seen on what the majority of the budget will be spent: high profile TV & magazine Ads? Santa Claus' sleigh powered by a couple of Xbox engines ? Or better yet ... a price cut ! Instead of waiting for Sony to do one :)


Anyway, start harassing your parents and/or grandparents and/or boy/girlfiends for a cool Xmas present :)
