Variety reports that Avi Arad has optioned the rights to Bioware Corp's much hyped sci-fi RPG and that he is currently trying to land himself the needed resources like a writer, a director and a studio to fund the project.

Neither EA nor Arad commented on the subject but Variety claims to have confirmation from multiple sources.

Although I never was a great fan of the game, turning this into a movie should be peanuts to a guy of Arad's calibre. Half the game were cut scenes anyway and it were those scenes that made the game famous after being banned, protested against and frowned upon by Fox News for some 'explicit' sexual content.

Arad is the man responsible for the revival of Marvel comic book based movies like the X-men, Spider-man and Iron Man franchises. So we can be pretty sure that it won't turn into a new Uwe Boll'ish misfit. Even if it only reaches up to Spider-Man 3 level, it will still be great entertainment.
