Metroid: Other M doesn't live up to expectations

Posted on Saturday, 13 November 2010 by Speed, source: Kotaku
When Metroid: Other M was released for the Wii a couple of months, Nintendo expected sales to be around one million. Unfortunately, it never really took off and has up to now managed to get only about half of those sales.

Despite the reasonably decent gameplay and ditto story, the newest in the Metroid series remains way below expectations.

Reggie Fils-Aime, head of Nintendo US, had the following to say:
"We believe that it could be, should be a million unit title," Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told Kotaku in an interview this morning. "We're not going to get there, not through the holiday. And we are doing a lot of thinking as to why. Because it's a great game. The consumer reaction because of the quality has been strong. We're doing a lot of thinking about why we didn't get there. I think the marketing was strong, advertising was very good, the social media we did was very positive."

Sorry Samus, only bad-asses here!
Apparently a lot of gamers don't like that lead character Samus has evolved from a quiet bad-ass bounty hunter to a rather insecure writer of space diaries. Still Fils-Aime refuses to acknowledge this is the reason for the less than stellar sales. According to him there are other factors to be taken into account but he didn't want to go into detail on that.

Despite all the criticism, Fils-Aime is convinced this won't be the end of the series. He believes the story still has a future and there's plenty of room for more sequels.
