Microsoft follows digital distribution hype

Posted on Tuesday, 16 August 2005 by Ryuken, source: Yahoo
Exent Technologies has been chosen as the partner to distribute PC games from Microsoft on the net. For those wondering what kind of franchises MS has published so far; Age of Empires, Age of Mythology, Dungeon Siege, Mechwarrior, Rise of Nations, Zoo Tycoon etc.. Not a bad lineup at all, don't you think?

"Microsoft is committed to helping expand the PC game industry. By making our titles available through Games-on-Demand services, we can broaden our reach to new audiences and monetize additional release windows," said Ed Ventura, Director of Franchise Development, Xbox Worldwide Content and Marketing at Microsoft. "Exent's distribution channels help us to extend the lifecycle of our game catalog and to build a firm foundation for the future."

Exent-powered Games-on-Demand services enable gamers to quickly obtain full-version games without the need to fully download them to their machines. The EXEtender(TM) technology solution helps players to enjoy a console-like gaming experience on the PC platform.
Now who the hell asked for what is said in that last sentence?

It seems as if the digital distribution trend is unstoppable; Stardock has its Totalgaming network, Valve has Steam and 3D Realms has GamexStream. Who's next?
