Microsoft still going for 10 million
Allthough the PS3 and Wii have been selling out very fast these last weeks, Microsoft is convinced that they will have sold 10 million Xbox 360's by the end of the year.
Until now the sales have been good, but not impressive. With the shortage of PS3 consoles in the US and Japan and the total lack of them in Europe, some people expect that a great number of gamers will choose to buy the other next-gen console. On top of that, the 360 has some impressive games coming up. The first of them, Gears of War, just has just been released and Halo3 and Blue Dragon are heavily anticipated. These games could tip the balance a bit in favor of Microsoft, but the battle will be long and hard because Sony and Nintendo are certainly not going to give up easily.
"Just how feasible that number is remains open. Microsoft's latest financial report at the end of September revealed that the company had moved 6 million Xbox 360s worldwide. And in his latest analysis, Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter said NPD data that Xbox 360 hardware sales in the U.S. were 2.9 million units, averaging approximately 250,000 units monthly for the last six months. Pachter further predicted that 750,000 Xbox 360 hardware units would be sold in November, and between 1.5 - 2 million units in December, a conservative estimate assuming that PS3 supply levels remained consistent throughout the month leading up to Christmas."
