Microsoft to cut thousands of jobs?
Posted on Monday, 5 January 2009 by Speed, source: The Independent
As if we aren't hearing enough news about layoffs already, rumours are floating around that Microsoft is about to cut up to 15000 of its staff.
According to rumours in the US, 10 to 17% of the total workforce at Microsoft may be in danger and especially non-US countries are targeted most. Microsoft themselves have decided to "not comment on speculation" (where did we hear that before?) but analysts seem to find it a positive thing:
According to rumours in the US, 10 to 17% of the total workforce at Microsoft may be in danger and especially non-US countries are targeted most. Microsoft themselves have decided to "not comment on speculation" (where did we hear that before?) but analysts seem to find it a positive thing:
"The prevailing wisdom on Microsoft is that the company may pre-announce disappointing December results," Brad Reback, analyst at Oppenheimer & Co, told clients. "Should such headcount reductions materialise, we would view them as a positive sign that management is interested in preserving the company's operating margin structure through the downturn."
Of course analysts would see job cuts as a positive sign... until it's THEIR jobs that are on the line of course. Cutting 15.000 jobs is not a positive thing! In other news:
