Microsoft to up the price of Xbox LIVE?

Posted on Monday, 19 October 2009 by Speed, source: Gametrailers
Michael Pachter is at it again! After declaring that Microsoft would come out as winner of the motion control battle between them and Sony, the guy has said at Gametrailers latest Bonus round that Microsoft is giving up on PC gaming ànd wants to increase the price of Xbox Live
"Microsoft wants you to never play a game again on your PC and play everything on your 360."

"You give a PC gamer an incentive to buy a 360 if you put something that he really wants only on the 360."

"You can't hook a guy into Xbox Live Gold if he's playing on PC. So, I mean, that's the other problem is you really wanna hook every gamer who has a 360, you want them to buy all their games on 360, play everything multiplayer, pay you 50 bucks a year so that in a couple years, it's 100 bucks a year. And that's going up -- we all know that."
Upping the price of Xbox LIVE is indeed a good strategy, but only if you've got more added value than your competitors (who don't charge for online btw) ànd you need to get PC gaming out of the way.

Personally I don't see PC development to die off completely anytime soon, unless Microsoft were to create Windows 8 and in some way prohibit games being made for it. And who would buy Windows 8 if you can't play games on it? You could then just as easily... buy a Mac!

consoles are not as good as a PC for online play. Console = More expensive games, pay for online play (xbox 360 only atm) and pay for DLC. I like my PS3 for solo games and my PC for online games. I have CoD:MW 1 and have never played the single player side, i don't want to, bought it for the multiplayer side and love it. Everyone get a PS3 and play for free, vote with your money, it's the only thing microsoft and other big software dev's will understand.

Microsoft has never seemed serious about PC gaming. Even their Games for Windows was a joke that they came up with after the Xbox came out to stay on the good side of PC gamers. This doesn't surprise me a bit.

Granted i would like to not have to pay for Xboxlive but compared to the PS3's online i dont see the price being that bad.

Theres no community on the PS3 and no one uses a headset so you might aswell be playing single player anyway, i played Warhawk for well over 100 hours and heard about 3 people talk.

Atleast because all Xboxlive kits came with a headset originaly xbxolive has become an online experience where everyone has a voice and talks, granted sometimes you dont want to hear those people but atleast you can mute them, you cant decide to turn peoples voices on when playing on the PS3, even Sonys Home service is just loads of people text chatting, its a massive step back.

As for them upping the price, yeah that is lame and sucks bigtime, i hear people moan about £40 a year for Xboxlive far to much, thats £3.33ish a month, if you cant afford that then how can you afford to be a gamer :)
