Military keep Medal of Honor ban, Jack Thompson claims victory
It seems Electronic Arts' decision to rename the Taliban in Medal of Honor isn't good enough to uplift the ban imposed on the game in military bases.
AAFES's Commander Maj. Gen. Bruce Casella made the following statement:
AAFES's Commander Maj. Gen. Bruce Casella made the following statement:
"Out of respect to those touched by the ongoing, real-life events presented as a game, Exchanges will not be carrying this product."
"I expect the military families who are authorized to shop the Exchange are aware, and understanding, of the decision not to carry this particular offering."
Following uproar about the possibility of playing as a member of the Taliban in multiplayer, the US Army decided to not sell the upcoming shooter in any of their stores located on military bases. EA then decided to rename the Taliban team to "Opposing Force" and Executive Producer Greg Goodrich made the the statement below:"I expect the military families who are authorized to shop the Exchange are aware, and understanding, of the decision not to carry this particular offering."
We have also received feedback from friends and families of fallen soldiers who have expressed concern over the inclusion of the Taliban in the multiplayer portion of our game. This is a very important voice to the Medal of Honor team. This is a voice that has earned the right to be listened to. It is a voice that we care deeply about. Because of this, and because the heartbeat of Medal of Honor has always resided in the reverence for American and Allied soldiers, we have decided to rename the opposing team in Medal of Honor multiplayer from Taliban to Opposing Force.
Jack Thompson (yes, he's still alive) sees the continued ban in military bases as a personal victory of himself and we can all go to hell:I win again, as usual. Any gamers who don’t think so and who don’t appreciate what I do to protect our culture can go to Hell.
and please add: Any gamers that don’t know how to get to Hell on an expedited basis, let me know, and I’ll send along the cheat code to get there more quickly.
For reference: Jack sent a letter to the US Secretary of Defense. A letter that was never replied to. The fact that UK Minister of Defense Liam Fox and Fox News were also in uproar certainly had nothing to do with the continued ban on military bases. It was Jack Thompson's message that made the difference!and please add: Any gamers that don’t know how to get to Hell on an expedited basis, let me know, and I’ll send along the cheat code to get there more quickly.
