Miyamoto has some strong statements

Posted on Tuesday, 8 May 2007 by Speed, source: ew.com
Shigeru Miyamoto, recently listed in the Time's top100 of most influential men, has been interviewed by EW.com and it ain't like he's holding back on giving some pretty strong statements.

Concerning the Zelda franchise:

Well, I think a lot of people who bought the Wii are not necessarily the types of people who are interested in playing that kind of game. And a lot of the people who would want to play it [due to chronic shortages of the console] can't find a Wii! But mostly, I think it's that there are fewer and fewer people who are interested in playing a big role-playing game like Zelda

And about Halo:

I could make Halo. It's not that I couldn't design that game. It's just that I choose not to. One thing about my game design is that I never try to look for what people want and then try to make that game design. I always try to create new experiences that are fun to play.

So, in conclusion: Miyamoto could make Halo if he wanted and people aren't interested in Zelda anymore

Yeah ok then Shig you tit, talks about making Halo as if it was a film script being passed around to film directors to see if they wanted to take the project on.

It never ceases to amaze me how truly imature and bitchy these game creators are.

Shigeru Miyamoto is now officialy right up there with Phil Harrison on the Dickheads in the games industry list.

All the people that really want Zelda cant get a Wii............that is by far the excuse of the century as to why a game hasnt sold as much as they had hoped.

I don't think he is saying he could make "halo" the exact game more so then he could easily make a general mainstream shooter.

He would rather make unique games that havent been tested and played over and over by the public like the millions of shooters/ action adventures etc

The man has the point. Halo is just a beefed up clone of Doom, as any shooter comming after Doom.

I don't know about Zelda but I know that Wii sells like hot waffles and some other consoles suck arse. Like XBOX or PS3.

Halo is just a beefed up Doom, yeah ok then if you say so.

The generalisation and vague'ness of the comments on this site are just too laughable, if you think a game is nothing more than a beefed up version of what ever came first in that genre then you best not bother looking at anything new on any mediam of entertainmet out there because its all been done before.

Im sure there are plenty of games that came way before Zelda in the same genre so that makes zelda highly unoriginal.

Before the Wii was even conceived Sega had given us sega Bass Fishing and Samba di Amigo which both used motion sensing controllers, samba di amigo even used a bar sensor which sat on top of your tv in the exact same way the wii uses a sensor bar, the Nintendo wii therefore is also highly unoriginal.

Dont be such a blinkered pleb and just enjoy what we have and learn to take things for what they are and not just compare eveything against everything, yes there is a lot of carbon copy bullshit out there and plenty more to come but saying the like of Halo is just another generic shooter that anybody and everybody could make if they so desired is out right stupid and just a complete lack of the ability to see past your own nose.

Miyamoto is just pissed off that although the wii is very much selling like hot waffles his beloved creation zelda is failing to win peoples hearts like the Ocarina of Time did all them years ago, the guy just obviously has a massive overly inflated ego.

No console sucks arse as you so maturely and one dimensionaly put it, all console's appeal to different people as do all games and the different way in which we play games.

Both Sony and Microsoft offer a power house machine with stunning high definition visuals while sony are somewhat seriously lagging behind microsoft in the online side of things both have their worth in the industry although personaly i prefer the 360 but that is purely just my opinion and does not mean i cant appreciate other systems as i do own others.

Nintedo offer a fun cheap machine for those not that into gaming and would more than likely find a game on a flash site or on their mobile phone to be more than enough to suit their gaming needs, its a laugh to play on the wii with some friends for a hour or so but it will never be home to engaging games that will keep you playing for hours and that will suck you in with visual real'ness, it is simply a gamecube with a motion sensitive controller.

It could of easily been done as a peripheral add on for the gamecube but it would never of sold anywhere near the amount it has if they had of done it that way, nintendo are the absolute kings of repackaging their old wares and people seem to throw their money at nintendo just to buy something they bought from them already a few years back, just look at how well their old games are selling on their virtual arcade, consumers are suckers for repackaged old goods and nintendo know this better than most and i think its pretty safe to say that most of their earnings are from their repackaged goods.

I personally look at the history of Shigeru Miyamoto and the fact that he has developed not one multi-million dollar title, but about 50 over the past 20 years and about 8 consoles in the process, Zelda is a fantastic title that appeals to children and adults alike - very similar to a good Disney flick (WALL E is a good example). I love Halo as much as Zelda, but appreciate what different consoles offer, in my opinion Shigeru Miyamoto is a genius who has without doubt influenced developers like bungie over the years with his development techniques - a little known fact is that it was Shigeru Miyamoto who developed the controls for Goldeneye, the first proper 1st person - FACT!, so quit your bitching and try to not take everything to heart! long live Shigeru Miyamoto!!
