The massive multiplayer first person shooter PlanetSide gets a special treatment next month.
Creators SOE don't only have a lot of new features in store for the loyal fanbase in the future but everyone will also be invited to try out this large-scale shooter for free during one year! Starting from February 14th (an estimated date), you'll be able to sign up for the game on a new account. The drawback is that you won't be able to achieve a Battle Rank higher than 8 and/or a Command Rank higher than 2. Subscribers will have more goodies/weapons too but in the end you still get to see quite a bit of everything this game has to offer.

Alongside this "Fodder Program" comes an improved interface and tutorial which should take away a lot confusion amongst newbies. Another plan of SOE for creating a new PlanetSide-buzz is the new promotion where they invite retired players to reactivate their old accounts (300.000 closed accounts are granted 30 days of free play of the full version if they login before February 28, 2006).

So, hopefully all this will revitalize the game because the least thing I could say about PlanetSide is that it has a big potential.
