Modern Warfare 2 will shock

Posted on Wednesday, 28 October 2009 by Speed, source: EG
It's clear that the last words haven't been written about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. After the controverse surrounding the dropping of support for dedicated servers on PC and the rather dubious decision to implement an optional third person view, Infinity Ward now seems to not be afraid to raise people's eyebrows when it comes to content either.

Those that don't like spoilers better stop reading here.

A trailer from the game got leaked and in it we get to see how a player gets to participate in murdering innocent civilians on an airfield. The trailer has since been removed from Youtube by Activision but according to several sources, the maker of the movie is the same person who previously managed to unveil the third person view option.

A part of the fourth level in Act 1 is shown and there you and four other men get out of an elevator, armed with machine guns and wearing protective clothing. Not long after you open fire on the many innocent people present, after which they try to escape in panic. And it get "better": you can put people who are crawling or hurt out of their misery with a well-aimed shot.

The briefing suggests that for this part you're infiltrating as an undercover agent in a terrorist organisation. To earn the group's trust you seem to have to do things that will put your moral values to the limit. The voice-over explains it as follows:
Yesterday you were a solider on the front, but today the front is a thing of the past. Uniforms are too. War is everywhere, and there will be victims. Makarov... obeys no law. He has no limits and stops at nothing: torture, human traffic, or genocide. He's guided by no ideals, respects no rights, no countries. He trades blood for money. He is our new friend.
In the first Modern Warfare the devs already didn't mind some controverse and it's clear they don't want to look like pussies now.

We already find it sounds like music to our ears: finally some original missions with adult themes! Whether some of the more "conservative" people will agree with this is of course another matter...
