Molyneux: Games don't surprise anymore
During an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, head of Lionhead Peter Molyneux said games have lost the magical surprise they used to have. The danger lies within games becoming "increasingly niche":
On the other hand, Fable 2, the new project Molyneux is working on, will be able to put you in front of the screen with your mouth wide open:
We can't wait to see if he's right!
"We need to look at the sense of wonder everybody has when they see a screen, and how many computer games are really getting that. What I desperately want I don't see very often these days: that moment I had when I first saw computer games. When I first saw Street Fighter, my eyes were glued to the screen."
On the other hand, Fable 2, the new project Molyneux is working on, will be able to put you in front of the screen with your mouth wide open:
"It would have been so easy for us to turn round and say, 'Okay, let's give you three more swords and six more spells and make the world five times bigger." "Personally, I'm 48 now and that doesn't do it for me. I want more, I want to feel immensely proud of what we're doing, and that means taking big steps."
We can't wait to see if he's right!

Are you saying that Oblivion wasn't "jaw-dropping" or that Fable 2 doesn't look like much of an improvement over Oblivion.
Not to completely disregard previous titles, but it wasn't until I saw Oblivion for the first time that I knew we were in the "next gen"

Pete's not referring to just graphics, he's going for the moment when you feel excited to see the next new opponent. Or your shocked at what the game is capable of as you never knew it could engulf you in emotion.
