Music games create growth in industry
According to analyst Ben Schachter of UBS, music games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band are responsible for more than a third of the growth in the games industry until now and he expects this percentage will keep growing.
With Guitar Hero IV and Rock Band 2 still to be released, it's looking good for wanna-be musicians.
Music games have been a "key driver," said Schachter, with "sales of music-themed games responsible for 19% of overall industry software dollars in July (15% YTD) and 44% of y/y industry dollar growth during the month (32% of growth YTD)." Note that that's 32 percent of growth year-to-date, and with the year only a little more than half over, that number will surely grow larger.
As it happens, it are not only the real casual games that make the gaming industry bigger, although the economy isn't doing well.With Guitar Hero IV and Rock Band 2 still to be released, it's looking good for wanna-be musicians.
