Still on top
The NPD US Sales figures for December are in and as was expected, the Nintendo Wii has come out again as the winner when it comes to console sales.

With 3.81 million sales, the Wii stayed ahead of Nintendo's handheld, the DS, which sold 3.31 million units. Both consoles together outsold the competition by a large margin:
Wii: 3.81 million
Nintendo DS: 3.31 million
PlayStation 3: 1.36 million
Xbox 360: 1.31 million
PSP: 654,700
PlayStation 2: 333,200
Also when it comes to games, Nintendo dominated and managed to even overtake Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2:
1. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo), Wii - 2.82 million
2. Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo), Wii - 2.41 million
3. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo), Wii - 1.79 million
4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Infinity Ward, Activision), Xbox 360 - 1.63 million
5. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Infinity Ward, Activision), PS3 - 1.12 million
6. Wii Play (Nintendo), Wii - 1.01 million
7. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo), Wii - 936,100
8. Assassin's Creed II (Ubisoft Montreal), Xbox 360 - 783,100
9. Left 4 Dead 2 (Valve, Electronic Arts), Xbox 360 - 728,500
10. Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (Alphadream, Nintendo) - 656,700
The comments from all major players were - of course - all positive.

Nintendo:
"Wii, Nintendo DS Lite and Nintendo DSi combined to sell more than 7 million units in the month of December alone," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of sales and marketing, in the statement.

"Clearly there is overwhelming consumer demand for fun games, motion controls and value. This remarkable hardware sales surge presents a tremendous software opportunity for Nintendo and its third-party partners as we head into 2010."
What dear Cammie "neglects" to say is that the software charts clearly shows that all top selling titles on Nintendo platforms are first party.

Sony:
In a statement peppered with end-of-year proclamations, the manufacturer trumpeted the console's 1.35 million sales for the month, which Sony said was the "single highest selling month for PS3 hardware and software in the U.S."

The company also announced that the PlayStation brand overall, including hardware and games for PlayStation systems, generated $5.1 billion in revenue overall, comprising 26 percent of total industry revenue
Sony decided not to mention that year-on-year their Playstation brand overall lost market share and its "26 percent of total industry revenue" came down from 30% which was already a decrease as in 2007 the company's Playstation brand had 35% market share.

Microsoft:
For third-party game sales, however, the brand remains extremely strong, generating $2.4 billion, or 43 percent of the industry's third-party game revenues in 2009.

Online service Xbox Live hit its highest concurrent user count in 2009, reaching 2.2 million people simultaneously.
blablabla... bunch of numbers... blablabla... "next year will be the best in Xbox history"... blablabla
