New Alien games from Sega*Update
Posted on Monday, 11 December 2006 by Ryuken, source: Hollywood Reporter
Alien is a powerful sci-fi/horror brand, even after all those years. Sega knows this too and thus they have signed an agreement with 20th Century Fox in order to obtain the right to create new Alien-games.
It's all about the original movies, and not the disappointment that was Alien Vs Predator (the movie, not the games). That's a total other license which might see more games too though since a AvP 2 movie is in the works.
But not from Sega since they are going for the pure experience, trying to make a shooter and, a bit surprisingly, an RPG. Both projects should be finished by 2008.
Sega is also negotiating with Sigourney Weaver and Lance Henriksen, respectively Ripley and Bishop in the movies, to get their appearance and voices in the games too. Players won't replay known events, but everything will take place in the Alien universe so fans can discover new secrets and background information.
We'll see what happens with this, if this reaches the same quality level as Chronicles of Riddick or the King Kong game then sign me up.
*Update*: Apparently, the logos of Gearbox and Obisidian could be seen on the teaser page of the Sega Alien-website, according to GamingTarget. They were quickly removed however but it doesn't take much thinking to realise that Gearbox is creating the FPS and Obsidian the RPG (the latter already announced an RPG-deal with Sega some time ago).
And more proof is found at the European teaser site, just check the small letters below.

We haven't finalized anything at this point, but everything is on the table," Lightner said. "It's important for everyone to understand the difference here: We're taking licensing to the next level with this franchise."
Mike Gallo, senior producer of the "Alien" games at Sega, said the new games will not follow the strict story lines of any of the four films in the series but instead will provide a new experience by drawing from the history and lore that is the foundation of the films.
"We'll go out of our way to tie the games into the films in unique ways," he said. "We're also looking at all 'Alien' source material for inspiration, in addition to the films. We may incorporate some characters that fans know and love, and we may let gamers find answers to questions that were left unanswered in the movies."
