New Line grabbing rights for Gears of War movie
Developer Epic Games has made the deal with them, since they still own the property rights, even though the heavy Microsoft marketing would have made people think otherwise.
The people involved with the script and early production will be Stuart Beattie (writer of Collateral), Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey. Gears of War lead designer CliffyB will act as executive producer so he can see for himself that nothing will go wrong with his baby.
The movie should be out by Summer 2009 (who knows, the sequel to the videogame might be available then too?), a director will jump aboard once the script is complete.

"We wanted to make an entertainment property that's not just for games but for other media," said Epic VP and co-founder Mark Rein.
"I'm not a gamer, but what blew me away about 'Gears' was how it captures the mythology of a war mission and how high the stakes are," Godfrey told Daily Variety.
"Our first and foremost philosophy is to do no harm, so we debated heavily the idea of doing a movie at all," Mark Rein said. "But we feel we stacked the deck in our favor by working with the best players."
