New PS3 firmware will have Cloud Saving?

Posted on Monday, 31 January 2011 by Speed, source: Kotaku
According to Kotaku, several sources at developers have received information from Sony that a new feature would arrive with the 3.60 firmware update for the PS3.

Apparently the patch will allow you to store savegames with the Cloud principle. To say it less techy: your savegames will be kept online available and will be available from any console you log in on with your profile.

You save some room and don't run the risk of ever losing your saves. Until Sony decides they've had enough and delete them anyway of course, or if and when their servers crash, but that's another story we probably don't have to worry about.

According to those same devs the function would only become available to subscribers of Playstation Plus.

Not too impressed with the idea of cloud saving, as too many times those files seem to disappear and there is nothing you can do about it. If they are your own saves and you lose them, then at least you have no one to blame but yourself. A good example is the amount of people who have complained on the Ubisoft forums, about losing their saved games with their current bad DRM.
