New date for The Sims 3

It's been a while coming, now it's also official. Electronic Arts let know in a press release that the second sequel to the immensely popular The Sims has been delayed. The wait however, is not going to be a very long one.

Originally slated for a 20th of February launch, this date has now been pushed back to the 2nd of June 2009. No wonder it's taking a few months longer, especially considering it's raining layoffs left and right. EA's marketing VP, Russell Arons sheds some light:

"The June launch combined with the break-through game the team is building gives us the perfect runway to create awareness for The Sims 3."

With over 100 million copies sold (across the whole franchise that is) I doubt they'll have much work improving awareness.

The feeling I got from the press release is that they're just waiting so they can release multiple products at once. And this extra time is just to finish developing the "add-on" for the brand.
