New information and scans of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
Posted on Monday, 12 December 2005 by Devilke, source: FactorNews
The popular magazine PCZone has published a new impression of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars in their last edition. This game is the sequel of the free and still frequently played shooter Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.
Again, Splash Damage is the developer, but this time they work under the supervision of Kevin Cloud from id Software. Of course, Quake Wars uses the Doom 3 engine, but there will be one big adaptation: the new MegaTexture rendering technology. This new part of the engine will make sure the textures aren’t boring anymore, but very detailed. As you can see on the magazine scans, it all looks very nice. Fortunately, all of this won’t require that much of your system. Iif you could play Doom 3 on your pc, you will also be able to play this sequel. Furthermore, it’s the first time the engine is used for outside locations only. The open fields of Quake Wars will be full of vegetation, so you can camouflage easily and then blow away your enemy without scruples. As expected, this shooter will also use a realistic physics engine, that allows them to leave the fields open and big. For example, every vehicle will contain an own damage model.
But enough praising the graphics, what about the gameplay? Well, the people of PCZone liked that too.
The multiplayer maps are made for 24 up to 32 players. Moreover, the game will contain futuristic cars. If you are the only one on board, you will be able to control all the weapons on it. For the new gamers, the steering of the cars is kept very easy. In Quake Wars people stand against the Stroggs and there will always be one team that attacks, while the other has to defend. One look at your radar will tell you immediately where all the action is at that moment.
You find the other scans from magazine here. On this site you can read the comment on the scans better. At this moment, Enemy Territory: Quake War is planned for mid 2006, with Activision as publisher.
