New: study violence in games

Because you are a visiting this fine site, I guess it's safe to assume that you are a gamer. But remember, you are part of a minority ! Most people frown upon gaming or consider it a silly and/or useless waste of time ... which it is, but that's not important right now :-)

What is important is that gaming is becoming a very important part of peoples lives, and that -of course- has to be studied by the academic world.

As from next year, adults in Great-Britain will be able to study "conflict and competition in video and computer games" because it has become "an option in a new AS-level media studies course".
Developed by the OCR exam board for next year, it is a new unit to run alongside four existing topics: consumerism and lifestyle magazines, celebrity and the tabloid press, music culture and radio, and gender and television situation comedy.

Children today spend more time watching television than they spend in school. If we add to this the time they devote to films, magazines, computer games and popular music, it is clear that the media constitute by far their most significant leisure-time pursuit.
