Nintendo ordered to pay for patent infringement
It seems Nintendo has done something Japanese companies used to be very well-known for: copy other people's stuff and sell it under their own brand.
What am I talking about? Well, in 2006 a small Texas-based company called Anascape filed suit against Nintendo for apparent patent infringement concerning the design of their controllers and today Yahoo is reporting the jury found Nintendo to be guilty.
As a result, the judge ordered Nintendo to pay $21 million:
Anascape also filed suit against Microsoft for the same reason, but that case was settled outside court before this trial started.

A federal jury found in favor of Anascape Ltd. in the lawsuit that was originally filed in 2006. Nintendo spokesman Charlie Scibetta said the company will seek an appeal and expects the court to reduce the award "significantly."
The jury found that Nintendo infringed on Anascape's patent while designing its Wii Classic, WaveBird and Gamecube controllers.
Anascape didn't win over the entire line though, no infringement was found with the motion-sensing technology of the Wii-mote and Nunchuck. The jury found that Nintendo infringed on Anascape's patent while designing its Wii Classic, WaveBird and Gamecube controllers.
