Nintendo reacts to 'fake E3 Wii' rumours

Posted on Saturday, 20 May 2006 by Anneleen, source: GameDaily BIZ
The day before yesterday you could read that the Wii games Nintendo was showing off at E3 were running on GameCubes. Nintendo denied this recently in an interview :

Nintendo confirmed that they did indeed use GameCube housing, but that the "guts" or internal architecture was certainly from the Wii. "The Wii hardware we exhibited at E3 2006 was made specifically for the E3 show and is not the final mass-production version. Some of this hardware was cased in Nintendo GameCube housing," the company explained.

On the question if the final Wii will be more powerful, Nintendo answered they do not put emphasis on graphics : even if the hardware isn't finished yet, what was shown at E3 is representative of the gameplay experience.

why would they use gamecube cases to put in the Wii hardware? the cases were invisible to the press, so they could've just used naked hardware - IF THEY HAD ANY! because wii hardware is yet to be finished...
they simply used gamecubes with wii software. and now they are denying it, because to acknowledge it would mean they would be selling us upgraded cubes. which would be bad.
