Nintendo strongly endorses its GameCube

Posted on Tuesday, 25 February 2003 by DoubleD, source: Fragland
Nintendo isn't going to give up their GameCube in Europe just yet, although less developers and publishers are willing to make titles available for this platform.

Nintendo has made clear that it will spend over 5 million €uro's on a massive cross-media campaign in March. Their upcoming title Metroid Prime will be their main focus in achieving massive publicity. A big deal with MTV, some major TV networks and big magazine advertisements will be the backbone of this campaign.

Nintendo has also planned to sell a Metroid Prime console bundle, containing a shiny new black GameCube, a copy of the game Metroid Prime and a Metroid nameplate to replace the original GameCube disc on the console. Prices for this bundle will be around 199€, which comes down to giving the game away for free.
The MTV deal will see Metroid Prime featured heavily at the MTV WinterJam 2003 event in Switzerland, which will adopt the sci-fi theme of Metroid and will feature a tournament with gameplay being projected onto a giant wall of ice. Meanwhile, TV ads will run on mainstream terrestrial and satellite channels, including Channel 4, Sky One, E4 and of course, MTV.

As reported late last week, Nintendo also plans to roll out a Metroid Prime console bundle, which will feature a black GameCube, a copy of the game and a Metroid nameplate (which, we have established, is a black plastic disc that replaces the GameCube disc on the top of your console - so now you know) for €199 (about £130), which effectively amounts to giving the game away for free with new Cubes.
