No CPL World Tour this year?

The CPL World Tour (Cyberathlete Professional League) has gotten a lot of media attention over the last year thanks to its 1 million dollar prize money and of course the terrific performance of our Dutch friend, Sander "Vo0" Kaasjager in the game Painkiller.

This year however, things aren't looking so bright for the professional gaming scene, even though the kinetic Quake 4 was chosen as this year's FPS.

Many expected the World Tour 2006 to be more successful as it picked Quake IV as its central game.
Although there has been no official announcement from the CPL that the World Tour has been cancelled, the organisation’s founder, Angel Munoz, has said in interviews that it will not now take place.

There is still no official confirmation, but the BBC has reported that the founder of the organisation informed them that there will be no CPL World Tour this year.
