No Wii HD, just another new DS and a line-up
The rumoured Wii HD that Watcher reported on yesterday didn't come true but according to Wired we are getting a new DS. This upgrade, that goes by the name DSi has some new features and improvements. The screen got upgraded again, this time to 3.25 inch. It is boasting not one but two VGA resolution cameras for all kinds of purposes I can't really imagine at this time. In the memory department there is a new SD slot and more memory built in.
Why all this memory, one might ask. Well next to the obvious reasons like pictures and savegames, Nintendo will release downloadable games through its online store. These use a 'new' currency called Nintendo Points and can cost from zero up to 800 points.
Pictures you take with the camera can be edited by the built in software that uses the touchscreen. The browser will be another handy soft that is installed by default.
And if all this isn't sweet enough to make you long for yet another DS, it now comes in a smaller package, about 12% smaller that is. All that you are missing is the GBA slot we know from previous DS versions.
Next to all the DS goodies, there was also some game news. Nothing really, really interesting there if you ask me except one title. During the demo section they showed a DS Final Fantasy game, some images from Dragon Quest IX, the successor to Wii sports and the usual crazy Japanese RPG style games. And then, *BLAM*, out of the blue they announce Punch-Out!! Wii. This game is the successor to Super Punch-Out!! for the SNES from 1994 which was legendary. To be honest, I was 13 back then so anything that involved punching was legendary...
Finally, a possibly ass kicking boxing title for the Wii. Please make the controls a bit more challenging than Wii Sports.
