Official design PS3 controller will be unveiled at E3
Posted on Thursday, 23 March 2006 by Roman, source: Gamesindustry.biz
At the GDC Phil Harrison, head of Sony Worldwide Studios, has announced that the official PS3 controller will be unveiled at the E3, which will take place in May.
He also noted that “the Blu-Ray will be Sony’s primary method of distribution but that the shift to digital distribution will be at a pace set by the consumer.” With the PS3 and her online functions, Sony’s goal is to provide episodic content in all mediaformats; music, video, games and more through downloads.
For all these downloads the harddisk will be an obligatory purchase and Harrison had some of the press concerned with his reluctance to comment on Ken’s announcement that the harddisk will come bundled with the PS3 console. "However Harrison has always chosen his words very carefully, and this reluctance is more likely out of a desire not to tread on his colleagues' toes than to create confusion or contradict previous statements." He did say, however, that, "Every single game will support a hard drive."
The design of the prototype shown at last year's E3 has proven controversial, and Harrison reminded everyone of its prototype status in response to question about the impact of the Immersion lawsuit, which had "no impact" on the decision not to show the controller at GDC. "The controller will be revealed at E3," he stated - something later reaffirmed by Sony a spokesperson.
