Thanks to EA, our reviewcopy of Battlefield 2 didn't arrive until weeks after its release. Still, we wanted to do something special so instead of just sending it to a reviewer and let him write his findings, we had 2 guys checking it out and now you can read the combined thoughts of Doccie and Ryuken right here

With a ping below 50 and all the graphic settings on Low there is still a huge slowdown right after the loadscreen and several 'aftershocks' during the rest of the match (test system: PIV2.6 Ghz, 512 MB DDRam and 9600 Pro). Certain actions often seem to trigger it like the moment right after firing an anti-tank rocket in secondary fire mode (so you can guide the rocket).

That's because of the 512MB RAM. I had 512, and I also noticed this problem, then I put in an extra 512 and never had the problem since. 512MB doesn't quite cut it, the maps are big enough to require lots of RAM, as soon as the game has to start using a swap file to compensate for a lack of RAM you'll experience slow downs whenever something not in cache comes into view.

Thought about it too but then again, if they mention it as minimum you would expect the game to run at an acceptable fps.

well... in fact...

From a gamedeveloper's point of view the minimum system requirements are exactly that. They say nothing about how smooth the game will run, they are just there to show what's the absolute bare minimum to run the game stable. So, to cut it short, minimum requirements are for stability not for performance.

Acceptable or stable, it's the same for me. No-one buys a game to see it run only fast on smaller maps. A pity that devs or publishers have another meaning in mind. Ah well, I'll prolly gonna get that extra 512 Ram anyway. :)

The bastards could have made an effort to amke a less hardware intensive game. Theres no real bonus in having a pc over a console as they just bodge together some shitty ineffiecent engine.

Minimum requirements has never meant that the game will run at an acceptable framerate, really.
