Last week, we reported that the PlayStation 3 wasn't doing overly well in its home country, but things are looking up for Sony. In fact, with 55,924 sold consoles (3 times last week's number), the PS3 has succeeded in surpassing the Nintendo Wii for the first time. The Wii sold 34,546 consoles. However, the undefeated champion in still the DS Lite, followed by the PSP.
DS 78,854 PSP 58,964 PS3 55,924 Wii 34,546 PS2 9,043 Xbox360 5,817
The nice sales figures of the PS3 are a result of several elements, such the price cut that is now in effect and the introduction of a ceramic white model. The Xbox 360 sees its numbers dwindle by 2/3. The effect of last week's release of Ace Combat 6 has apparently worn off.
