Sony already stated that we shouldn't be surprised to see a slimline PS3, but could it be true that it's coming already this Autumn?

Well, Stuff.tv thinks it very well could be.

They're making their assumptions on the basis that Sony is expected to break even on their console by August and with smallers cpu's and graphics chips being used (which are also cheaper to produce) the possibility to release a smaller version PS3 wouldn't be so impossible.

Personally I don't think Sony will be releasing a smaller version this quickly. After all, it took them years (and lots of profit) before we saw a slimline PS2. It's the perfect way to breathe new life into an aging console.

However, Sony still has quite some catching up to do towards Microsoft and Nintendo and a slimline PS3 would certainly lift up sales. So who knows? Maybe Sony will indeed release a new version by the end of the year.
