PS3 not before 2006
Gamepro have had an interiew with tech consultant and former PlayStation and PlayStation 2 CTO Nobuichi Okamoto on the next generation PlayStation and he let them know that Sony's PS3 and its cell-technology will not be ready before 2006
Would be extremely interesting to see who would dominate then.
Development of the Cell started in spring of 2001 as a 5-year project. Hence the project will end in spring of 2006. Although it is not known whether or not game consoles will be sold immediately, we can expect products using the Cell chip to start emerging around that time.
If PS3 is going to be launched in 2006, the possibility that Sony will be last on the market with a new console is very high and the advantage they had with the PS2 will be completely gone (they launched PS2 before Nintendo and Microsoft launched their consoles).Would be extremely interesting to see who would dominate then.
