PS3 sales still cost Sony money

Sony still loses $37 on each unit

A lot of people were happy when Sony dropped the price of that Playstation 3 but it seems that resulted in the company still losing money on each unit that gets sold. However, with hardware prices still dropping rapidly, chances are Sony will soon be actually making money on their console:

According to iSuppli, its 2008 analysis of the PS3's component costs showed that the then-$399 console was losing at least $50 per unit. So it's notable that even at the lower price, Sony is losing less money. Further, the analysis firm suggested that with component costs dropping rapidly, Sony could soon find itself making money on the PS3.

Seeing that the original Playstation 3 was getting sold for $599 while it cost no less than $805 to manufacture, I would say Sony has done a terrific job up to now.

Whether that will be enough to really get the PS3 business profitable all over the board, however, is another matter.

He's not claiming that Sony is losing money from their Playstation brand; only that each console is selling for less than cost. While your comment has some merit - Sony probably does make enough from their percentage of game sales, as well as accessories and other Playstation fan junk - I don't get why you have to try to put him down.
