Eventhough there is no official launch date, everyone assumed Sony's new console, the PS3 Slim, would be for sale through retail starting September the first.

Sony honcho, Kaz Hirai, however, hinted that in some regions the improved PlayStation might be available before this date. On Gizmodo this seems to be confirmed by someone already having managed to buy a PS3 Slim at a local retailer. In the case of Gizmodo the retailer is Best Buy, though allegedly you would also be able to buy one early over at GameStop.

For now this mainly confirms that which we already suspected. Customers of Best Buy namely got the opportunity to pre-order the console, the game-computer would then ship August 25th. Considering the bunch of logistical shenanigans involved with launching a console it's no true wonder all the elements are in place before the launch date. Wether the various regions of Europe will be lucky enough to savour the PS3 Slim before its alleged 1 September launch remains to be seen.
