PS3 to support full DivX

Because the Xbox 360 is supporting DivX since their latest firmware update, Sony has no choice but to implement it also. Luckily for us they are not just going to copy, but also improve it! They signed a contract with DivX which will allow the full implementation of DivX and not just the support for it.

In other words, the Playstation 3 will not only be able to play DivX files, but developers will also be able to use it for their in-game movies. An advantage would be the lower power consumption when playing these in-game videos.

Sony takes time... but allways for good reasons.

Hmm, and DivX Corp has given the Pro version of their DivX 6.8 package both for Windows and Mac free for a limited time, you get a free activation code...

Indeed! Xvid beats Divx anyday.

Divx is very buggy when it runs in a browser. Both IE and Firefox keep crashing when I play Divx movies through the web.

If you really want Xvid on a PS3, just install Yellow Dog Linux and then install it yourself.

DIVX is fine, the only reason it would crash both browsers is because your computer sucks, it could possibly be retarded. Buy it a helmet, wipe the drool off it's giant tongue and just accept it. Divx works fine, and should be awesome when its released on the PS3

but it was probably an unofficial firmware? so that doesn't count, since then people with an Xbox 360 could say the same :)

Divx support is great for those of us with a full PC media library. However, after reading the press releases about this one big thing is right there that no body seems to comment on.

SONY NEEDS Divx for thier vision of the home service. They want to stream in real time all sorts of video media. They can't do this without superior compression technology. They really have no reason to create thier own standard for high compression so Divx is a logical choice.
